Taylor Swift drops ‘Christmas Tree Farm’ song as homage to childhood

O, Tay-nnenbaum!

At midnight Thursday, Taylor Swift released a last-minute, unexpected holiday song to make the Yuletide slay. Titled “Christmas Tree Farm” — and reportedly written less than a week ago — it is accompanied by a music video that features home footage of a curly-haired young Swift basking in the glow of Xmas tree lights, sitting on Santa’s lap, playing in the snow and unwrapping a guitar. The uptempo, nearly four-minute song features footage back to 1989, the year was born on Dec. 13.

The romantic, nostalgic single is an appropriate homage for Swift, who was raised on an actual Christmas tree farm in Pennsylvania.

“That’s why I’m sort of obsessed with Christmas,” Swift said in a 2013 interview with her then-music label, Big Machine, which was acquired last June (to Swift’s disgust) by music manager Scooter Braun.

“I really love Christmas, I wish it was all year round, just like for the feeling that everybody has,” she added. “Everybody’s buying gifts for each other and there’s sort of a feeling about it. But I think that the fact that I love it so much is probably because I grew up on a Christmas tree farm.”

The song also serves as a cheery love letter to an unseen soul mate who brings a sense of yearning to her heart. Swift sings of being “under the mistletoe, watching the fire glow” and declaring that “just being in your arms takes me back to that little farm were every wish comes true.”

Sure, it may not be Eartha Kitt’s sultry “Santa Baby” or Judy Garland’s wistful “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” but it’s not Elmo & Patsy’s “Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer,” either.

Tay Tay first teased the holiday release Thursday morning on ABC’s “Good Morning America” and on her Twitter, Instagram and Facebook accounts in a selfie video that racked up more than 4 million views.

“Okay, I know this is pretty wild, but I’ve just written a Christmas song,” the sweater-clad singer says, feigning indecision about whether to release the song now or just wait until the 2020 holiday season. “I feel like it’s weird to just, like, wait a year to put it out. So, uh, I don’t know what to do.” She then seeks guidance from her trio of pet cats, all of whom seem indifferent.

“When they shun you with silence, ambivalence, and judgmental brush offs… just put the song out anyway,” the 29-year-old Swift writes in the accompanying caption.

She adorned the posts with the hashtag #ChristmasTreeFarm and, appropriatelym a string of 13 decorated tree emojis. Swift’s father actually tended to the family farm as a “hobby,” she told Esquire in 2014. “It was such a weird place to grow up. But it has cemented in me this unnatural level of excitement about fall and then the holiday season. My friends are so sick of me talking about autumn coming. They’re like, ‘What are you, an elf?’ ”

This isn’t the “You Need to Calm Down” singer’s first foray into festive frolicking: In 2007 she released the six-song album “The Taylor Swift Holiday Collection.” It included covers of songs like twangy versions of “Santa Baby” and “Silent Night,” a fiddle- and mandolin-infused rendition of Irving Berlin’s “White Christmas,” and a perky version of “Last Christmas” by Wham! duo George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley.

On the album, she also co-wrote — with oft-collaborator Liz Rose — a bitter downer of a holiday breakup song titled “Christmases When You Were Mine.” (Sample lyric: “When you were putting up the lights this year, did you notice one less pair of hands?”)

This Christmas, unfortunately, Swift already has a lump of coal for her stocking. The 10-time Grammy winner’s latest album, “Lover,” was pretty much snubbed in this year’s nominations, landing only one nod in the top four categories. But this week she was gifted a cover shoot for People magazine’s 2019 People of the Year.

And Swift has another reason to celebrate this holiday season: She turns 30 next week, on Dec. 13 — the same day she’ll perform at the iHeartRadio and Z100 Jingle Ball 2019 at Madison Square Garden, where she’ll be joined by the Jonas Brothers, Camila Cabello, Lizzo, Halsey, Dan + Shay and more. After that she’ll claw her way into theaters in the “weird” film adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Cats.” (She also recorded the cat-atonic song “Beautiful Ghosts” for the movie’s soundtrack.) Plus, next year a documentary about the singer, titled “Taylor Swift: Miss Americana,” will be the opening night movie at the Sundance Film Festival, which runs from Jan. 23 to Feb. 2.

Why George Washington is a “model” in the impeachment constitutional clash

After two months of investigations and testimony, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is calling for the House Judiciary Committee to draft articles of impeachment, moving quickly to put the president of the United States on trial. As CBS News correspondent Nancy Cordes reported, Pelosi’s announcement on Thursday sets up the distinct possibility that a vote to impeach will take place by the end of the month.

On Wednesday, the House Judiciary Committee conducted a hearing on the constitutional grounds for impeaching a president. Three law professors called by Democrats said the evidence against President Trump is strong enough to justify impeachment. They said the president’s request that Ukraine investigate political rival Joe Biden would have been impeachable even if he hadn’t upped the pressure by withholding nearly $400 million in aid to Ukraine. But a fourth constitutional law expert invited by Republicans disagreed.

“60 Minutes” correspondent John Dickerson offered context as to why the Constitution is “at the absolute center of the presidency.”

“What’s the question at stake here? Did the president use his powers of office for himself and not his country? When they created the Constitution, they sat George Washington at the front of the room as a model for building the presidency. Why? Because twice in his career he’d given up power and not done the thing for himself but protected the republic. And they said that’s what we want in a president,” Dickerson said Thursday on “CBS This Morning.” “He both did it when he gave up his commission as commander of the Continental Army and also when his soldiers tried to stage a coup against the government. Washington heard about the coup and said, ‘How dare you, don’t you do that, you must protect the republic.’ That was the model for the office.”

Dickerson said one weakness in Mr. Trump’s case is that while the president himself denies wrongdoing – and in fact insists his call with Ukraine’s president was “perfect” –  his supporters aren’t doing the same.

“His defenders in Congress don’t start with that as their argument but complain about the process; it implicitly undermines the president’s argument. If you were in a trial and you weren’t even in town when the crime you’re being accused of happened, you’d want your defense attorney to say, ‘He wasn’t even in town,'” he said.

While the impeachment fight will be partisan and messy, Dickerson advised Americans to “let it breathe.”

“Let the process go forward,” he said. “It’s going to be messy because it was messy when… it was a Democratic president who was in the hot seat. It’s now going to be messy when it’s a Republican one.”

Millennials won’t give up seat on transport and are happy to queue jump, new poll reveals – The Sun

RUDE millennials aren’t prepared to give up their seat on public transport and are happy to queue jump, a poll found.

They are shunning traditional manners such as saying “please” or “thank you” for a new code of conduct over social media behaviour.

A majority, 84 per cent, of 18 to 34-year-olds say polite greetings or holding a door open for someone is simply old fashioned.

Four in ten won’t give up their seat, nearly a third will cut in and more than half won’t say “bless you” at sneezes.

But a third think that ghosting someone online — breaking off all social media contact — is a modern faux pas. And more than half say sharing someone else’s news online is also impolite.

The Privilege Insurance poll also found Brits are becoming less tolerant.

The top forms of politeness falling out of favour are pulling someone’s chair out, observing a ladies first etiquette and offering to take someone’s coat.

Behaviour seen as unacceptable includes littering, playing music loudly on phones and loud talking on trains and buses.

Privilege’s Charlotte Fielding said: “Airs and graces that were once considered important are now becoming a thing of the past.”

Kylie Rae Harris' Autopsy Reveals New Details From Fatal Car Crash

The investigation into a fatal car crash involving country singer Kylie Rae Harris is now complete.

In documents obtained exclusively by E! News, Harris is revealed to have died from blunt force trauma as a result of the high-speed accident, which took place on Sept. 4 in New Mexico and also resulted in the death of 16-year-old Maria Elena Cruz.

Additionally, toxicology tests concluded that Harris had a blood-alcohol concentration of .28—more than three times the legal limit—when she struck an oncoming vehicle driven by Cruz. The Taos County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Thursday that Harris was speeding at 102 miles per hour when she hit the rear of one vehicle before careening into Cruz’s vehicle at 95 miles per hour. Both Harris and Cruz were pronounced dead at the scene, while the third driver escaped injury.

“The now completed investigation supports what we suspected at the time of our initial investigation and my earlier press release that stated alcohol consumption was suspected and speeding was a factor,” Sheriff Jerry Hogrefe said in a statement.

The New Mexico Office of the Medical Investigator stated in the autopsy report that Harris suffered abrasions on her face and legs as well as several fractured bones.

A postmortem CT scan showed multiple broken skull bones, an abnormal collection of air in the skull, bleeding within the brain and a broken neck. The breastbone, multiple ribs and the pelvis were also broken, the documents state.

Following her passing, the 30-year-old’s publicist shared with E! News in part, “Everyone that knew Kylie knew how much she loved her family and, beyond that, how much she loved music. The best tribute to her unmatched enthusiasm for both is to spread as much love as you can today, and listen to music that fully inspires you.”

One week after Harris’ death, her loved ones came together at a funeral held in her hometown of Plano, Texas.

“There was an outpouring of support from Texas musicians who attended in person and sent their condolences,” family friend Deborah Mash told E! News at the time, adding that Harris’ stepfather delivered the eulogy and her young daughter performed a song.

In 2017, Harris was convicted of driving while intoxicated and ordered to install an ignition interlock device on her vehicle. Three years prior, she reportedly received a speeding citation.

'Criminal Minds' Season 15: Do Fans Want JJ and Reid to End up Together?

Criminal Minds may be coming to an end after one final season, but that hasn’t stopped fans from wondering how it will all play out. Could Jennifer “JJ” Jareau (A.J. Cook) and Dr. Spencer Reid (Matthew Gray Gubler) end up together and do fans even want them to? Read on to learn more. There are spoilers ahead, so continue only if you are caught up with Criminal Minds.

JJ made a shocking confession that could change everything

In the season 14 finale, JJ made a startling confession that fans can’t stop talking about. She was being held by an unsub along with Reid. She had to reveal a secret while a gun was pointed at her. JJ decided to reveal the details and no one could believe what she let spill. “Spence, um, I’ve always loved you. And I was just too scared to say it before. And now things are just really too complicated to say now,” JJ said. “I’m sorry, but you should know.”

How do fans feel about the Jeid situation?

Fans have a lot of feelings about the Jeid situation, andmost of them aren’t positive. The timing is just wrong and people think it isreally unnecessary drama in the show. “I hate it. It makes no sense and is justcreated for drama,” a Reddituser wrote. “He did have a crush on her in the beginning but she neverreturned the feelings, she only ever saw him as a friend/little brother figure, and eventually his feelings went away too.”

The timing is off

The feelings each character had for each other never seem tobe reciprocated at the same time. “During season 1, they showed that Reid had acrush on her and okay that’s cute or whatever but then they completely erasedthat story line and I was fine with it too,” anotherReddit user said about JJ and Reid. “Then 14 years later all of a suddenthere’s Reid/JJ. it makes no sense. Especially knowing that JJ already built afamily? If they really wanted Reid to end up with someone, the writers couldhave just added another character or something but honestly no one was askingfor a JJ/Reid pairing I don’t understand the writer’s logic.”

“I’ve watched the series multiple times…did I miss something? I’ve never felt anything more than brother/sister/best friend kind of vibes from this duo…,” another Reddit user noted about Jeid.

Many fans think it all feels “thrown together” and not at all what they would hope a love match would be for the two characters. “I’m not digging the JJ/Reid ship here. Seems thrown together for one last hurrah,” another user agreed.

The final season of Criminal Minds premieres onWednesday, January 8, 2020, at 9 p.m. E.S.T. Hopefully, fans will get theanswers they need when it comes to what’s going on with JJ and Reid. Bothcharacters deserve to find happiness, but maybe not with each other accordingto many fans.

Justin Timberlake and wife Jessica Biel are 'working through' issues after his hand-holding storm with Alisha Wainwright

JUSTIN Timberlake and wife Jessica Biel are reportedly "working through" their issues following his hand-holding storm.

Sources say that singer-turned-actor Justin, 38, is working in private to repair the damage after he was spotted getting close to co-star Alisha Wainwright.

One insider told People that he and actress Jessica – mom to their four-year-old son Silas – "will work through this".

Last night, the former NSYNC star issued a lengthy apology for what he called his "strong lapse in judgment" during the boozy night out last month.

The source added: "It was good that he apologized publicly but obviously the real work he is doing is in private and hopefully this was just a bad drunken night of this type of behavior.”

Another insider said of Justin: “He’s charming and outgoing. And obviously he drank too much this time."

In his grovelling Instagram post on Wednesday, Justin wrote: "I stay away from gossip as much as I can, but for my family, I feel it is important to address recent rumors that are hurting the people I love.

"A few weeks ago I displayed a strong lapse in judgment — but let me be clear — nothing happened between me and my costar.

"I drank way too much that night and I regret my behavior.

"I should have known better."

Justin, who is filming new movie Palmer with Alisha, added: "This is not the example I want to set for my son.

“I apologize to my amazing wife and family for putting them through such an embarrassing situation, and I am focused on being the best husband and father I can be.

"This was not that. I am incredibly proud to be working on Palmer.

"Looking forward to continuing to make this movie and excited for people to see it."

His apology came after The Sun exclusively revealed how Justin and Alisha were seen cuddling up to each other at a New Orleans bar.

Photos showed Alisha touching Justin's knee before he took hold of her hand.

The pair were snapped around midnight chatting and drinking while on a break from filming the American football drama – in which they play lovers.

Onlookers were shocked to see him holding hands with Alisha, and risk upsetting Biel — his wife of seven years.

One said: “They were smiling and laughing.

"At one stage he grabbed her hand and rested it on his knee. She then gently started stroking his leg.

“Then he clutched her hand with both of his and was playing with her hands.”

Justin had been snapped wearing his wedding ring earlier in the week but was not seen with it on during the night out.

Alisha is best known for her role as Maia Roberts in the television series Shadowhunters, and can currently be seen starring alongside Michael B Jordan in the Netflix series Raising Dion.

Justin and Biel, who wed in 2012, are widely considered to have one of the most rock-solid marriages in Hollywood.

Both regularly post heartfelt videos on Instagram.
